Kazakhstan sees decrease in retail trade year-on-year

The value of the retail trade in Kazakhstan amounted to 789.4 billion tenge (approximately $1.8 billion) in Jan. 2021, which is 4.6 percent less compared to the same month of 2020, Trend reports with reference to the Committee of Statistics of Kazakhstan.

According to the data, the largest percentage in the total retail trade turnover accounts for individual entrepreneurs (37.2 percent) during the reporting month.

It is followed by small businesses (27.4 percent) and large businesses (23.9 percent). The least amount of retail trade turnover accounts for medium businesses (11.5 percent).

The largest share of the retail trade accounts for Almaty city. Some 32.3 percent of the total trade turnover accounts for this city and the value of trade turnover here has dropped by 7.3 percent during the reporting period compared to the same month of 2020.

The major part of the retail trade turnover accounts for Nur-Sultan city (11.1 percent; volume decreased by 2.2 percent), Karaganda region (9.8 percent; volume decreased by 3.9 percent), and East Kazakhstan region (9.1 percent; decrease by 0.6 percent).
