Iran unveils volume of fish caught in north-south waters

A total of 502,000 tons of fish were caught from the seas in northern and southern Iran during the first 9 months of the current year (March 20 - December 20, 2020), Deputy Chairman of Iran Fisheries Organization Parviz Mohebbi said, Trend reports citing Ministry of Agriculture Jihad of Iran.

Mohebbi stressed that the volume of fish caught within 9 months decreased by 14 percent compared to the same period last Iranian year.

The deputy chairman added that 11,700 fishing boats have operated in northern and southern Iran over the reporting period.

"About 93 ships were engaged in fishing of Lanternfish, 21 boats - cutlassfish, 9 boats - squid boats in the Gulf of Oman," he said.

As reported, Iran's fish exports amounted to 114,000 tons worth $399 million during the first 10 months of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2020 through January 20, 2021).

It is projected that the value of the Iran's fish and fishery products exports will reach $538 million in the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2020 to March 21, 2021).

Iran plans to increase exports of fish and fishery products to $660 million in the next Iranian year (from March 21, 2021 to March 21, 2022).
