As many as 534,000 hectares of dry-farming land have been insured in Iran since the beginning of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2020) to date, Deputy Director of Agricultural Insurance Fund Mohammad Ebrahim Hassannejad said, Trend reports citing the Ministry of Agriculture Jihad of Iran.

Hassannejad said that more than 1 trillion rials (about $23.8 million) has been allocated for insurance of dry-farming land in the current Iranian year.

The deputy director added that the farmers should pay 100,000 rials (about $2.38) in insurance premiums per hectare on insurance of dry-farming land.

"The insurance of dry-farming land has been welcomed by farmers in Iran's East Azerbaijan, Kurdistan, Golestan and Khuzestan provinces," he said.

According to him, the Execution of Imam Khomeini's Order (EIKO) also provided subsidies for insurance of dry-farming land. So, the committee has allocated 220 billion rials (about $5.23 million) to insure the crops grown in the dry-farming land.

Hassannejad emphasized that more than 200,000 hectares of land under rapeseed in Iran in the current Iranian year have been insured. This resulted in an increase in the area under rapeseed and, consequently, an increase in yield.
