Azerbaijan’s SOCAR Polymer LLC produced 92,000 tons of polypropylene over 2020, Trend reports citing the report of the Azerbaijani Cabinet of Ministers for 2020.
During the reporting year, the company exported 84,600 tons of polypropylene, reads the report.
"Last year, SOCAR Polymer produced 50,600 tons of high-density polyethylene. As much as 96 percent of these products, or 48,500 tons, were exported to foreign markets," the report noted.
Over the past year, the company’s total export amounted to $14.7 million.
SOCAR Polymer had become the first large-scale project implemented in the petrochemical industry of Azerbaijan over the past 40 years.
The project, aiming at accelerating the development of the chemical industry in Azerbaijan, was launched in 2013. The company's production facilities consist of two plants for the production of polypropylene and high-density polyethylene, located in the Sumgayit Chemical Industrial Park LLC. The plants were commissioned in 2018 and 2019, respectively.
The successful results of this project are expected to create multiplier effects in many important sectors of Azerbaijan's industry and generate numerous jobs.
