Iran to boost tea production

Iran's tea production is estimated to reach 135,000 tons in the current Iranian year (from March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022), Chairman of Iran Tea Organization Habib Jahansaz told IANA news agency, Trend reports.

According to Jahansaz, in this regard, several changes were made in the planting method, the number of manufacturing enterprises was increased.

The chairman added that about 462 hectares of tea plantations were replanted in Iran in the last İranian year (from March 20, 2020 through March 20, 2021). As a result, Iran's dry tea production increased to 30,000 tons.

“The price of guaranteed purchase of tea leaves increased by about 45 percent,” he said

Reportedly, 133,000 tons of tea leaves were harvested in Iran last year, and about 30,000 tons of dry tea were produced.

The price of first-grade tea leaves was 46,000 rials (about $1.09), and the cost of second-grade tea leaves was 33,000 rials (about 78 cents) last year.

In Iran, some products such as rice, sugar beet, wheat, and tea are purchased from farmers by the Government Trade Corporation (GTC) of Iran under a guarantee and paid for in installments.
