Kazakhstan discloses target area for planting crops in 2021

Kazakhstan’s Agriculture Ministry disclosed the forecast сropping pattern for 2021, Trend reports referring to Kazinform.

“This year, it’s planned to place agricultural crops on an area of 22.8 million hectares, which is 186,600 hectares, or 0.8 percent, more than in 2020, including grains and legumes on 15.8 million hectares,” the Ministry’s Chief Saparkhan Omarov said during the Government meeting. “The forecasted area for oilseeds is 3 million hectares, which is 63,000 hectares more than last year, and 3.4 million hectares of fodder crops. The area of vegetable and melon crops will be 16,000 hectares more than in the previous year and will amount to 280,000 hectares."

He informed that a meeting was held with the participation of the local regions’ akimats (administrations) and financial institutions on the preparation for spring fieldwork, at which the local executive bodies were advised to pay more attention to the issue of increasing the areas of socially significant crops.

"Following the meeting, in order to increase the output of crops significant for the population, letters were sent to the regional akimats on the need to raise the areas for sowing ​​buckwheat and potatoes. So, the local executive bodies were recommended to expand the buckwheat areas to 103,000 hectares instead of the previously planned 89,000 hectares, and potato areas - up to 209,000 hectares instead of 197,000 hectares.

According to the minister, as of March 29, crops have been sown in Almaty, Zhambyl, Kyzylorda, and Turkestan regions.
