Iran's exports to Turkey shrink

Iran's exports to Turkey decreased by 50 percent in terms of value and by 63 percent in terms of volume in the last Iranian year (from March 20, 2020 through March 20, 2021), compared to the preceding Iranian year (from March 21, 2019 through March 19, 2020), Spokesman for the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) Rouhollah Latifi said, Trend reports citing the administration’s website.

According to Latifi, in general, Iran's trade turnover with Turkey amounted to about 11.2 million tons worth $6.85 billion in the last Iranian year.

“So, Iran exported 6.36 million tons of goods worth $2.51 billion to Turkey and imported 4.81 million tons worth $4.34 billion from Turkey over the reporting period,” he added.

The official noted that while in the preceding Iranian year, Iran exported 17.3 million tons of goods worth $5.03 billion to Turkey.

Latifi stressed that Iran's imports from Turkey also decreased by 13.5 percent in terms of value and 15.5 percent in terms of volume in the last Iranian year compared to the preceding year. Thus, Iran imported 5.7 million tons of goods worth $5.02 billion from Turkey in the preceding year.

“The value of Iran's exports to Turkey averaged about $345 per ton last year. While in the preceding year, this figure was about $290 per ton. In addition, the value of Iran's imports from Turkey averaged about $902 per ton last Iranian. However, this figure was about $881 per ton in the preceding year,” he said.

The spokesman emphasized that the exported goods to Turkey were mainly natural gas, dry milk and dairy products, vinegar, tobacco, salt, polymers, construction materials, clothing, footwear, raw leather, carpets, ceramics, medical equipment, household appliances, agricultural machinery, industrial machinery, steel ingots and etc.

Latifi also added that the imported goods from Turkey were mainly barley, bananas, rice, various seeds, cocoa, various medicines, vaccines, medical and dental supplies, various fabrics, automotive spare parts, minerals, cranes, and so on.

Reportedly, Iran's total foreign trade turnover amounted to about 146 million tons worth $73 billion in the last Iranian year. During this period, Iran exported 112 million tons of goods worth $34.5 billion and imported 33.4 million tons worth $38.4 billion.
