In total, 7 million tons of sugar beet were harvested in Iran from the beginning of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2021) to May 10, Trend reports citing Government Trading Corporation of Iran (GTC).
According to the report, the harvested sugar beet increased by 70 percent compared to the same period last Iranian year.
“Thus, 800,000 tons of sugar were produced from this amount of sugar beet,” the report said.
At present, there are 49 sugar processing plants are operating in Iran. These plants have the capacity to process 5.3 million tons of sugar per year.
A total of 2.5 million tons of sugar were processed and consumed in Iran during last Iranian year. Of this, 1 million tons of raw sugar was imported, and 1.5 million tons was for domestic production.
