Azerbaijan reports increase in capital's 1Q2021 trade tunover

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 26

The value of food, drinks, and tobacco products sold in the Baku trading network increased by 2.2 percent in the first 4 months of 2021 compared to the same period of 2020 and exceeded 3.54 billion manat ($2.08 billion), Trend reports citing the State Statistical Committee of Azerbaijan.

During the specified period, the trade turnover in Baku increased by 0.8 percent compared on annual basis, reaching 6.7 billion manat ($3.94 billion), the report of the committee said.

At the same time, the sale of non-food products decreased by 0.7 percent and amounted to 3.17 billion manat ($1.86 billion), said the report.

According to the committee, 38.1 percent of the products were sold by enterprises with the status of a legal entity, 45.6 percent - trade facilities owned by individual entrepreneurs, and 16.3 percent – by the markets in Baku.

In 2020, the trade turnover in Baku increased by 0.5 percent compared to 2019 and surpassed 23 billion manat ($13.5 billion). At the same time, the sale of food, beverages and tobacco products in the trading network increased by 6.4 percent and exceeded 11.7 billion manat in value terms.

The sale of non-food products last year decreased by 4.6 percent - to 11.2 billion manat ($6.58 billion). Some 29.4 percent of the sold products fell on enterprises with the status of a legal entity, 54.2 percent - trade facilities owned by individual entrepreneurs, and 16.4 percent – by the markets of the capital.
