IRICA discloses details of Iran’s imports

Iran's imports amounted to 5.3 million tons worth $6.5 billion in the second month of the current Iranian year (April 21 through May 21, 2021), Director General of Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA), Mehdi Mirashrafi said, Trend reports citing the administration.

The director-general emphasized Iran's imports increased by 29.5 percent in terms of value and decreased by 16.5 percent in terms of volume, compared to the same month last Iranian year.

Mirashrafi added that the imported goods were mainly mobile phones, corn feed, sunflower oil, compressed soybean, wheat, soybean seeds, rice, barley, sugar, and soybean oil. The imports of these 10 goods amounted to 3.7 million tons worth $2.1 billion. These goods accounted for 33 percent of Iran's total imports in terms of value and 69.5 percent in terms of volume.

“Within the 2nd month, Iran imported 1.4 million tons of goods worth $1.8 billion from the UAE. This is an increase of 181 percent in terms of value and 114 percent in terms of volume, compared to the same month last Iranian year,” he said.

The director-general noted that Iran's imports from China amounted to 461,000 tons worth $1.5 billion.

According to him, Iran imported 581,000 tons of goods worth $642 million from Turkey over the second month. Iran's imports from Turkey decreased by 42 percent in terms of value and 48 percent in terms of volume, compared to the same month last Iranian year.

Mirashrafi stressed that moreover, Iran's imports from Germany amounted to 156,000 tons worth $285 million during the reporting month, which is a decrease of 15 percent in terms of value and 54 percent in terms of volume, compared to the same month last Iranian year.

“In addition, Iran imported 359,000 tons of goods worth $283 million from Switzerland in the second month,” he said.

Iran's imports from the five countries amounted to 2.96 million tons worth $4.54 billion over the 2nd month of the current Iranian year. These countries accounted for 70 percent of Iran's total imports in terms of value and 55 percent in terms of volume, Mirashrafi added.

The director-general also noted that 1.84 million tons of goods were transited through Iran within the mentioned month. This shows an increase of 142 percent, compared to the same month last Iranian year.

As reported, Iran's trade turnover with the world countries amounted to 22.8 million tons worth $12.8 billion in the second month. This is an increase of 38 percent in terms of value and 6.6 percent in terms of volume, compared to the same month last Iranian year.
