BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 5
By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:
Georgian lari strengthening is absolutely natural and it goes with the opening of the economy, said Chairman of the Sectoral Economy and Economic Policy Committee David Songulashvili, Trend reports via Georgian media.
Georgian national currency has strengthened more than 23 tetri (7.16 cents) for the last 15 days and now $1 totals to 3.15 lari (98 cents).
"Strengthening of lari is absolutely natural, the process accompanies the consistent opening of the economy. The strengthening of lari once again confirms the positive expectations and attitudes that exist from the private sector. Precisely these attitudes have created the current situation. Once the economy is consistently opened, lari will strengthen," Songhulashvili said.
He said that the government is pursuing a coherent policy in terms of opening up the economy.
"The government is pursuing a consistent policy of opening up the economy. These actions and policies are the results of lari strengthening. In addition, the confidence in the steps taken by the government is quite high, the opening of the economy is going on consistently, hence the sentiment that the economy will recover at a fast pace is positive, all these led to the process of strengthening lari," said Songhulashvili.
