Livestock to be purchased from nomads in Iran under guarantee

The State Livestock Affairs Logistics (S.L.A.L) will start purchasing livestock from nomads in Iran under a guarantee from June 7, the head of the Iranian Nomads Affair Organization, Shahpour Alaei Moghaddam said, Trend reports citing the organization’s website.

The official noted that the guaranteed price of livestock per kilo is 450,000 rials (about $10.7). In addition, 3 kg of barley for each kg of meat will be delivered to the nomads, who will sell the livestock to this company.

Moghaddam added that Iranian nomads bring great benefits to the state, with minimum expenses.

As reported, more than 1.1 million nomads inside 246,000 families live in Iran. About 790,000 hectares of land in the country are at the disposal of nomads. About 28 percent of small ruminants and 4 percent of cattle In Iran's livestock sector belong to nomads. Thus, 9.7 million head of livestock are put up for sale annually at the market by nomads.

The Iranian government has guaranteed the purchase of 1 million livestock from nomads in the current Iranian year (from March 21, 2020 through March 21, 2022).

The current demand in Iran is 880,000 tons of red meat and the 1.2 million nomad population produces 200,000 tons of the following volume.
