About 108,000 tons of rapeseed have been purchased from farmers in Iran under a guarantee from April 6 to June 20, 2021, said Mohammad Taghi Tabatabaee, head of the public relations department of the Government Trading Corporation of Iran (GTC), Trend reports citing the corporation's website.
According to the Tabatabaee, the value of the purchased rapeseed was 11 trillion rials (about $262 million).
The official added that rapeseed is purchased from farmers in 25 provinces of Iran. The largest volume of rapeseed was purchased in Golestan Province. So, 65,000 tons of rapeseed have been purchased from farmers in this province.
“In addition, 111,000 tons of rapeseed have been purchased from farmers in Iran on a contract basis. Thus, the volume of rapeseed purchased from farmers in Iran increased by 2 percent, compared to the same period last Iranian year,” he said.
Reportedly, rapeseed has been planted on 350,000 hectares in Iran in the current Iranian year and 600,000 tons of rapeseed are estimated to be harvested.
One kilogram of rapeseed is purchased by the Government Trading Corporation of Iran for 110,000 rials (about $2.61).
A number of products, including wheat, tea, rice, and other products are purchased from farmers by GTC under a guarantee in Iran.
