A total of 58,600 tons of tea leaves worth 3.71 trillion rials (about $88.3 million) have been purchased from tea growers in Iran under a guarantee from the beginning of the tea harvesting season in Iran (April 21) to June 22, the Chairman of Iran Tea Organization Habib Jahansaz said, Trend reports citing Ministry of Agriculture Jihad of Iran.
Jahansaz emphasized that 47,600 tons of purchased tea leaves are the 1st grade, and about 11,000 tons – 2nd grade.
The chairman added that, about 84 percent of money ie worth 3.01 trillion rials (about $71.6 million) has been paid to tea growers, so far.
"The purchase of tea leaves from tea growers in Iran under a guarantee began on April 22, 2021 and will continue until September 23, 2021 in four stages," he said.
In the first stage, 55,000 tons of tea leaves have been purchased and 13,200 tons of dry tea has been produced in Iran. It is forecasted that 45,000-50,000 tons of tea leaves will be purchased in the second stage, according to Jahansaz.
The price of first-grade tea leaves is 66,900 rials (about $1.59), and the second-grade tea leaves is 44,800 rials (about $1.06) in this season.
In Iran, some products such as rice, sugar beet, wheat and tea are purchased from farmers by the Government Trade Corporation (GTC) of Iran under a guarantee and paid for in installments.
