Turkmenistan and Finland have expressed interest in developing relations in the political, diplomatic, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian fields, Trend reports with reference to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

This was stated during a videoconference between Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Vepa Hadjiev and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Finland to Turkmenistan Maria Elina Liivala, as well as the representatives of the Finnish Foreign Ministry.

The parties stressed the importance of visits at the high and highest levels, and also considered the possibility of organizing such visits this year.

The sides also spoke in favor of strengthening the legal framework of bilateral cooperation, as well as discussed the possibilities of increasing cooperation in the humanitarian field, including educational and scientific contacts.

As earlier Sirpa Oksanen, Director of the Unit for Eastern Europe and Central Asia of Department for Russia, Eastern Europe, and Central Asia at Finland’s Ministry for Foreign Affairs told Trend, Finland encourages Turkmenistan to further improve the business environment for private businesses.

Oksanen noted that Finland follows closely the developments in Turkmenistan.

"Finnish companies can offer a wide range of products i.a. green technologies, health care equipment, and IT and digital services," added Oksanen.

According to Oksanen, Finland is also engaged in cooperation for enhancing the capacity of the Ombudsperson’s Office to protect human rights.

In recent years, Turkmenistan has increased its interest in cooperation with the Scandinavian countries. In particular, the state statistics Committee of the country earlier issued a message stating that for Turkmenistan the economic experience of Finland is of particular interest.
