In general, 256 million tons were added to Iran's coal reserves over the past six years (from March 21, 2015 through March 20, 2021), Trend reports citing the Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO).

According to the report, coal discovered in Iran within the mentioned period accounts for 42 percent of Iran’s total coal reserves in terms of volume.

With the continuation of IMIDRO's development program, 500 million tons will be added to Iran’s coal reserves by 2041.

As reported, Iran extracted 1.58 million tons of coal in the last Iranian year (from March 20, 2020 through March 20, 2021).
