Iran is working to completely stop the sale of raw steel with the launch of the Zarand steel plant today on July 8, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said, Trend reports citing the Iranian President Office’s official website.

He made the remark today on July 8 in an event dedicated to the launch of several facilities in Iran.

The president said that the launch of 400 trillion rials (about $9.52 billion) worth of facilities in one province of Iran (Kerman) within a day shows that Iran has made great strides in many areas.

Rouhani added that since the revolution in Iran, a large steel facility under a blast furnace plan is put into operation in the country for the first time.

Reportedly, 5 facilities of the Iranian Middle East Mines Industries Development Holding Company (MIDHCO) were put into operation today on July 8. And as a result, 4,150 people will be provided with jobs. The financial support of the facilities was provided by the Bank Pasargad of Iran.

Zarand Steel Plant can produce 1.7 million tons of steel ingots per year using a blast furnace. The complex cost 240 trillion rials (about $5.71 billion).

Iran's raw steel exports amounted to 967,000 tons during the first two months of the current Iranian year (from March 21 through May 21, 2021), which is an increase of 134 percent, compared to the same period last Iranian year.
