Iran has active trade relations with Azerbaijan, especially in the field of customs, Director General of Astara Customs Office, Karim Rasouli told Trend.
The director general noted that at present, Iran and Azerbaijan have all land, sea and railway connections.
"The Astara border checkpoint in Iran's Astara County operates 24 hours a day. While the Astara railway line and the Bilasuvar border checkpoint, operate 12 hours a day," he said.
Rasouli added that the Astara railway line is mainly active in import, the Astara border checkpoint in export, and both the border checkpoint and the railway line are active in the field of transit.
"During 3 months of the current Iranian year (from March 21 through June 21, 2021), goods worth $120 million were exported, worth $50 million were imported and worth $200 million were transited through Astara customs," he said.
The director general emphasized that the goods imported from Azerbaijan or transited to Iran through this country are mainly grain, animal feed and wood materials.
According to Rasouli, currently, 200-300 trucks pass from the Astara border checkpoint daily.
"In addition, the first cargo was transited through the Astara customs within the North-South Corridor for the first time in the current Iranian year (from March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022). Thus, a cargo of 530 million euros worth of paper entered Iran via a railway line from Finland to India," he added.
The director general stressed Astara Customs Office provides customs services to businessmen exporting goods to the member countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).
