Iran sees increase in tea production

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Aug. 5

The volume of tea leaves grown in Iran increased by 17 percent from the beginning of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2021) to August 3, compared to the same period last Iranian year, the Chairman of Iran Tea Organization Habib Jahansaz told the IANA, Trend reports.

According to the chairman, a total of 94,100 tons of tea leaves were purchased from farmers within the mentioned period. Of this, about 54,800 tons were the 1st grade, 39,300 tons – the 2nd grade.

Jahansaz added that the value of purchased tea leaves is 5.54 trillion rials (about $132 million). So far, about 81 percent of the money, i.e., 4.46 trillion rials (about $106 million) has been paid to farmers.

“The second stage of tea harvesting has already started. As well as the third stage will start in the next 10 days,” he said.

The chairman noted that Iran has produced 21,200 tons of dry tea during the reporting period.

As reported, the price of first-grade tea leaves is 66,900 rials (about $1.59), and the second-grade tea leaves is 44,800 rials (about $1.06) in this season.
