Iran's trade with Afghanistan continues – IRICA

Although truck traffic through the Dogharoon checkpoint on Iran's border with Afghanistan has dropped by 50 percent in the past month, it has increased by 10 percent over the past week, compared to the previous week, Spokesman for the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) Rouhollah Latifi said, Trend reports citing the administration.

According to Latifi, at present, 500 trucks pass through this border checkpoint daily.

The official added that trade with the Mahirud border checkpoint also continues. Thus, 50 percent of trade between the two countries is carried out through this border checkpoint. It is estimated that more than 500 trucks pass through this border checkpoint daily.

“The activities of Milak border checkpoint have already been suspended. If the situation in Afghanistan stabilizes in the coming weeks, trade via the border checkpoint is expected to resume,” he said.

The spokesman noted that Iran's exports to Afghanistan in the 4th month of the current Iranian year (June 22 through July 22, 2021) amounted to 415,000 tons worth $258 million. The exports increased by 18 percent in terms of value and decreased by 37 percent in terms of volume, compared to the same month last Iranian year.

As reported, Iran exported 1.8 million tons of goods worth $728 million to Afghanistan in the four months of the current Iranian year (from March 21 through July 22, 2021). Afghanistan is the 5th largest importer of Iranian products after China, Iraq, the UAE and Turkey.
