Georgia sees increase in cattle

BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 16

The number of bovine animals increased by 2.2 percent at the end of the second quarter of 2021 compared to the second quarter of 2020 and reached 1 million heads, Trend reports via the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat).

Of which, the total number of dairy cows and buffaloes decreased by 2.1 percent from the same period of the previous year and equaled 452,500 heads.

The total number of sheep and goats was down by 17.7 percent and year-on-year amounted to 984,700 heads.

The number of pigs equaled 192,100 heads which are 13.3 percent less than at the same period of the previous year.

The number of poultry decreased by 11.2 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and equaled 11.5 million heads.

According to the preliminary data, in the second quarter of 2021 milk production decreased by 1 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and amounted to 194.3 million liters.

Meat production increased by 8.1 percent from the same period of the previous year and equaled 17,300 tons.

In the second quarter of 2021 egg production amounted to 159 million pieces which are 8.8 percent less than in the same period of the previous year.
