The retail trade turnover in Uzbekistan amounted to $11.5 billion in 7 months of 2021, Trend reports with reference to Uzbekistan’s State Statistics Committee.
According to the State Statistics Committee, this is 8.6 percent more than in the same period last year. However, the share of small businesses in the total volume fell from 81.8 percent to 71.8 percent.
In January-July, large retailers grew by 15.2 percent compared to the same period of the last year. Their turnover reached $2.2 billion. Small businesses rose by only 3.8 percent ($8.2 billion) and unorganized trade by 46 percent ($976.5 million).
As a result, the shares of these spheres in the total turnover were distributed as follows: large retailers - 19.7 percent, small business - 71.8 percent, and unorganized trade - 8.5 percent. This shows that almost a third of the retail market is concentrated in the hands of large players and unorganized trade. Last year, small businesses had a share of 81.8 percent.
