Iran seek to increase shrimp farming

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Aug. 25

The area under shrimp farming in Iran increased by about 12 percent in the current Iranian year (from March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022), compared to the last Iranian year (from March 20, 2020, through March 20, 2021), Deputy Chairman of Iran Fisheries Organization Isa Golshahi said, Trend reports citing Ministry of Agriculture Jihad of Iran.

Golshahi noted that shrimp is currently grown on 13,600 hectares in Iran.

“Thus, shrimp are grown on 6,050 hectares in Iran's Bushehr Province and 5,280 hectares in Hormozgan Province,” he added.

The deputy said that more than 60,000 tons of shrimp are estimated to be grown in Iran within the current Iranian year.

As reported, Iran exported about 27,000 tons of various fish and fishery products worth $52 million during the first three months of the current Iranian year (from March 21 through June 21, 2021).

About 15,600 tons of various fish, 713 tons of tuna, 6,300 tons of other fishery products, and more than 4,000 tons of shrimp were exported in the three months.
