BAKU, Azerbaijan, Sept. 2
Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:
According to the head of the Association of Auto Importers Alexi Noniadze, as a result of the coronavirus pandemic and quarantine, about 30 percent of car dealers have left the Georgian market, Trend reports with reference to the Georgian media.
Some of them will return to work after the risks are reduced and the economic situation improves, while others have already switched to other types of business, he said.
“Currently, the demand for new cars has dropped significantly, although the market has already grown in comparison with 2020. People refrain from expensive purchases, and this also applies to cars, ”he said.
Note that the coronavirus pandemic has dealt a severe blow to the Georgian car rental companies, which are practically not working today.
According to the founder of the company "Auto Plus" Giorgi Arbolishvili, this business is designed for foreign tourists, and local citizens hardly use it.
“Our business is almost entirely focused on foreigners. Locals also sometimes rent cars, but this is very rare because they do not have the necessary funds to do so. During the crisis, everyone switched to very economical spending of money and buy only the most necessary. In past years, local residents were more active in renting cars, but now everyone is trying to save money,” he said.
