BAKU, Azerbaijan, Sept. 14
Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:
Overall, the trade balance between EU and Georgia for Trade in Agricultural goods is positive, the EU Delegation in Georgia told Trend.
“Fruit and nuts" and "wines and vinegar" remain to be the front-runners from Georgia, said the source.
"While comparing the top 10 agricultural products exported from Georgia to the EU and to the World, the following Georgian products with most export potential to the world are absent from main exports to the EU: live bovines, citrus fruit, and sheep meat," said the source.
Most of all, dried fruit, fresh or chilled vegetables and fruits (including berries), tea, and laurel, and others are supplied from Georgia to the EU countries, the EU added.
"Until now we have not observed export of citrus from Georgia to the EU Member States," said the source.
"The EU is Georgia’s main trading partner, with a 27 percent share of its total trade. The ongoing opening of the EU market to more Georgian products continually offers Georgians new export and income opportunities", said the source.
Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are the backbone of the Georgian economy. To support their development, the EU provides funding, training, and export support through its EU4Business initiative, the EU added.
