Iran boosts rice imports

Iran’s rice imports increased by 24 percent in terms of value and 33 percent in terms of volume during the first six months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through September 22, 2021), compared to the same period last Iranian year, the Spokesman for the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) Rouhollah Latifi said, Trend reports citing the administration.

Latifi stressed that Iran imported 714,000 tons of rice worth $608 million within 6 months.

The official also added that just in the 6th month (August 23 through September 22, 2021), Iran imported 528,000 tons of rice worth $440 million.

However, Iran has imported a total of 186,000 tons of rice worth ($167 million) in 5 months, he said.

The spokesman noted that the Iran’s Market Regulation Headquarters imposes restrictions on the import and export of certain products, including rice, in different seasons.
