Iran's pistachio production declines due to climate change - deputy minister

TEHRAN, Iran, Oct. 11

Trend:

Iran pistachio production is estimated to fall by 80,000 tons in the current Iranian year (started March 21, 2021) due to climate change, said the deputy in Ministry of Agriculture, Trend reports citing IRNA.

Following drought and low rainfall in the country, the predicted pistachio production in the current year is 287,426 tons, Darab Hassani noted.

The country has produced 358,244 tons of pistachio in the last Iranian year (started March 20, 2020). There are 25 leading provinces in pistachio production, but the cultivating areas have face water shortages due to global warming.

Although the long-term outlook expects an increase in production in western and northwestern areas and a rise in exports.
