Iran's Sefid-Dasht Steel Company boosts sponge iron production

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Nov. 2

The sponge iron production of Sefid Dasht Steel Company in the Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Province (south-western Iran), increased by 14 percent, during the first six months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through September 22, 2021), compared to the same period last Iranian year, said CEO of the company Mahmoud Arbabzadeh, Trend reports citing the company’s website.

According to Arbabzadeh, the company produced 455,000 tons of sponge iron in 6 months. Meanwhile, in the same period last Iranian year, the figure stood at 390,000 tons.

The CEO also added that the company's sponge iron production was 72,000 tons in the 7th month of the current Iranian year (September 23 through October 22).

“Thus, the company's sponge iron production for 7 months (March 21 through October 22, 2021) amounted to 527,000 tons,” he said.

Arbabzadeh noted that the company currently employs 650 people. In the near future, 280 more people are planned to be employed.

The CEO emphasized that there is currently 90 percent physical progress in the construction of the company's steel plant.

As reported, the shares of Sefid Dasht Steel Company are owned by Mobarakeh Steel Company (65 percent) and Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization, known as IMIDRO (35 percent).

Reportedly, the company is building a plant that will produce 1 million tons of steel a year.
