Iran has managed to increase potato production this crop year, reaching 5.2 million tons planted on a 141,000-hectare area, said Hossein Asghari, an official within the Ministry of Agriculture of Iran, Trend reports citing Mehr News Agency.
The potato production last crop year stood at 5.5 million tons - 261,000 tons more than the estimated plan, Asghari noted.
The potato production during the autumn season was equal to 69 percent of the country's annual production in the current Iranian year (started March 21, 2021).
The potato harvest from August 23 to October 23 is stored at warehouses for the second half of the current year and will be distributed to the market, if necessary.
