Iran records increase in tea production

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Dec. 15

Iran’s tea production increased by 4 percent, during the current Iranian year (March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022), compared the preceding Iranian year (March 20, 2020 through March 20, 2021), the Chairman of the Iran Tea Organization, Habib Jahansaz said, Trend reports citing Iranian Ministry of Agriculture Jihad.

The chairman said that tea production in Iran for current Iranian year amounted to 31,000 tons.

“In total, 137,000 tons of tea leaves worth 7.6 trillion rials (about $181 million) have been purchased from tea farmers in Iran this year,” he added.

Jahansaz noted that so far, 135,000 tons of tea leaves worth about 7.45 trillion rials (about $177 million) have been purchased from farmers under a guarantee and the money has been paid in full.

According to him, Iran has issued low-interest loans worth 450 billion rials (about $ 10.7 million) to farmers and tea factories in order to increase tea production in the country.

The price of first-grade tea leaves is 66,900 rials (about $1.59), and the second-grade tea leaves are 44,800 rials (about $1.06) in this season.

In Iran, some products such as rice, sugar beet, wheat and tea are purchased from farmers by the Government Trade Corporation (GTC) of Iran under a guarantee and paid for in installments.
