BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 16

By Amina Nazarli - Trend:

Turkmenistan and International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) have expressed a willingness to strengthen cooperation for the implementation of joint projects in the future to support agricultural producers, Trend reports via Turkmen media.

The topic was discussed during a meeting between Toyly Komekov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to the Italy and Gilbert Fossoun Houngbo, Head of IFAD at the Fund’s headquarters in Rome.

Komekov said Turkmenistan's reforms and large-scale work to transform agriculture into a high-tech industry open to innovative solutions.

According to him, the urgent tasks for the development of the country's agro-industrial complex are aimed at increasing agricultural profitability, rational use of land and water resources, and widespread adoption of new technologies.

Houngbo, for his part, emphasized the fund's activities and the projects carried out globally to improve the well-being of rural residents.

Agriculture is one of Turkmenistan's most important economic sectors. Wheat, cotton, rice, sugar beets, fodder, vegetables, melons, fruit, and berry crops are the main types of agricultural crops grown in the country.

The state provides targeted support for the development of the agricultural sector. In particular, the entire production infrastructure of the agro-industrial sector is being re-equipped and modernized, the chemical industry is developing, and modern tractors, combines, and other equipment are being purchased.
