Russia’s Astrakhan region will share sturgeon breeding experience with Turkmenistan, Trend reports citing Turkmenportal.

This was stated at a virtual meeting held between the representatives of Turkmenistan and Astrakhan region, with participation of heads of Turkmen Khazar balyk and Elin balyk enterprises.

During the meeting Astrakhan specialists in the reproduction of sturgeon breeding offered Turkmen counterparts cooperation in the training, retraining and advanced training of specialists in the field of sturgeon breeding, inviting them to Astrakhan.

Turkmen fisheries, for their part, accepted the invitation and stated that they intend to visit the Astrakhan region to establish cooperation in the field of aquatic biological resource artificial reproduction.

In terms of aquaculture, the Astrakhan region is one of Russia's leaders. Last year, the region produced 19,000 tons of pond fish, 1,700 tons of marketable sturgeons, and 21 tons of black caviar.

Turkmenistan has been looking to expand its fish farms for several years. In the country, more than 40 fish farms are currently in operation. These farms are members of Turkmenistan's Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs.

In the Balkan region, Khazar Balyk raises expensive fish species such as sturgeon. The complex, which includes an aquaculture farm and a fish processing plant, also exports canned fish products.
