BAKU, Azerbaijan, Feb. 27
By Elnur Baghishov – Trend:
Iran imported a total of 1 million tons of rice, during the 11 months of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2021 through February 19, 2022), an official of Iranian Government Trade Corporation (GTC), Hojjat Baratali said, Trend reports citing the corporation’s website.
Baratali said that about 340,000 tons of imported rice were stored in warehouses and the rest was put up for sale domestically.
The official noted that Iran imports rice mainly from India, Pakistan and Thailand.
According to him, Iran's rice consumption is about 3.2 million tons a year. Due to the drought in the country for the current Iranian year (March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022), Iran produced only 1.8 million tons of rice, so it is planned to import about 1.35-1.4 million tons of rice this year.
