BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 6. Iran's imports increased by 42 percent in value and 52 percent in volume, in the 12th month of the last Iranian year (February 20 through March 20, 2022), compared to the same month of the preceding Iranian year, the Spokesman for the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) Rouhollah Latifi said, Trend reports citing the administration.

The official noted that about 4.42 million tons of goods worth $6.45 billion were imported into Iran in the 12th month.

“Meanwhile, Iran’s imports for the 12th month of the current Iranian year increased by 26 percent in value and 24 percent in volume compared to the 11th month of last Iranian year (January 21 through February 19, 2022),” he added.

According to Latifi, Iran imported about 1.26 million tons of goods worth about $1.97 billion from the UAE during the 12th month, which is an increase of 78 percent in value compared to the same month preceding Iranian year, and 29 percent in value compared to the 11th month.

“Furthermore, Iran's imports from China for the reporting month amounted to 468,000 tons worth $1.64 billion. In terms of value, the imports increased by 58 percent compared to the same month preceding Iranian year and 4 percent compared to the 11th month,” he said.

The spokesman noted that Iran also imported 254,000 tons of goods worth $596 million from Turkey within the mentioned period, which is an increase of 7 percent in value compared to the same month last Iranian year, and 26 percent in value compared to the 11th month.

Within the 12th month, Iran imported 161,000 tons of goods worth $282 million from Germany. In terms of value, Iran’s imports from Germany increased by 58 percent compared to the same month preceding Iranian year, and by 117 percent compared to the 11th month, Latifi pointed out.

The customs official added that Iran imported 515,000 tons of goods worth $214 million from Russia in the 12th month, which is an increase of 84 percent in value compared to the same month last Iranian year and 75 percent in value compared to the 11th month.

Iran's non-oil trade turnover for the 12th month of the last Iranian year amounted to about 14.5 million tons worth about $11.5 billion.
