BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 21. In total, 3.7 trillion rials (about $88.2 million) has been paid to tea farmers in Iran since the beginning of the current tea harvesting season in the country (April 21, 2022), the Chairman of the Iran Tea Organization, Habib Jahansaz said, Trend reports citing Iranian Ministry of Agriculture Jihad.
The chairman noted that on June 21 alone, farmers have been paid 148 billion rials (about $3.5 million).
Jahansaz added that so far, 50,000 tons of tea leaves have been purchased from farmers in the country, resulting in the production of about 11,400 tons of dry tea.
“As of today, the second stage of tea harvesting has started in Gilan and Mazandaran provinces,” he said.
In Iran, some products such as rice, sugar beet, wheat and tea are purchased from farmers by the Government Trade Corporation (GTC) of Iran under a guarantee and paid for in installments.
The price of first-grade tea leaves is 92,000 rials (about $2.19), and the second-grade tea leaves are 71,000 rials (about $1.69) this season.
