BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 16. Iran is expected to establish regular shipping routes in Caspian Sea for the shipment of containers among Iran, Russia and Kazakhstan, Director General of Gilan Province’s Ports and Maritime Department Hossein Younesi said, Trend reports citing Iranian Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO).

The director general stressed that a total of 9 ships will operate on container shipment among Iran’s Anzali, Amirabad and Noshahr ports, Russia’s Astrakhan and Makhachkala ports, and Kazakhstan’s Aktau port. Currently, the timetable of the mentioned routes is being prepared.

Younesi added that so far, such regular routes have not been established in the north ports of Iran. These routes will result in an increase in Iran’s cargo transportation in the Caspian Sea.

According to him, if the demand for container shipment increases, new shipping routes can be opened through Iran’s Astara and Fereidoonkenar ports in the future.
