BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 31. A total of 90,110 tons of tea leaves worth over 7.57 trillion rials (about $180 million) have been purchased from farmers in Iran since the beginning of the current tea harvesting season (started on April 21, 2022), in the country, the Chairman of the Iran Tea Organization, Habib Jahansaz said, Trend reports citing Iranian Ministry of Agriculture Jihad.

Jahansaz said that about 56,040 tons of the purchased tea leaves were 1st grade, while 34,070 tons - the 2nd grade.

The chairman added that in recent days, another 220 billion rials (about $5.23 million) have been paid to the farmers for purchased tea leaves. Thus, the amount of total money paid to tea farmers in the country has reached 6.51 trillion rials (about $155 million).

According to him, more than 20,275 tons of dry tea have been produced in the country during this season.

In Iran, some products such as rice, sugar beet, wheat, and tea are purchased from farmers by the Government Trade Corporation (GTC) of Iran under a guarantee and paid for in installments.

The price of first-grade tea leaves is 92,000 rials (about $2.19), and second-grade tea leaves are 71,000 rials (about $1.69) this season.
