BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 6. In total, 525 tons of bony fish worth 890 billion rials (about $21.2 million) were caught in the Caspian Sea in Iran’s Mazandaran Province, during 54 days (October 9 through December 2, 2022), Director General of the Iran Fisheries Organization for Mazandaran Province Ghasem Karimzadeh said, Trend reports citing the organization’s website.

This is an increase of 85 percent in value, while a decrease of 7 percent in volume compared to the same period last Iranian year, Karimzadeh noted

The director general added that of the mentioned volume, 55 percent accounted for mullet, 28 percent for Caspian kutum,15 percent for carp, and 2 percent for other fish species.

Generally, 50 fishing companies and about 4,000 fishermen work in the province. Fishing has a fundamental role in the income and livelihood of the population in Mazandaran Province.
