BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 26. A total of 180 tons of saffron were harvested in Iran’s Razavi Khorasan Province in the north-east of the country, during the current season (September 15 through December 20, 2022), Deputy Director of the Agricultural Department of Razavi Khorasan Province, Gholam Hossein Sarban told IRNA, Trend reports.
According to Sarban, the amount of saffron harvested in the province has decreased compared to previous seasons. So, 300-320 tons of saffron at least have been harvested in the province over past seasons.
The deputy director added that in total, there are 121,000 hectares of area under saffron in the country. Of this, about 61 percent are in Razavi Khorasan Province.
He also pointed out that 220 people are engaged in saffron cultivation on each hectare of land in Razavi Khorasan Province.
