BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 27. In total, 8.7 trillion rials (about $207 million) has been paid to tea farmers in Iran in exchange for tea leaves purchased from farmers during the last harvesting season (April 21 through November 1, 2022), Chairman of the Iran Tea Organization, Habib Jahansaz said, Trend reports citing Iranian Ministry of Agriculture Jihad.
As reported, the money for tea leaves purchased from farmers in Iran is paid to farmers in stages.
Jahansaz noted that 92 percent of the total money for purchased tea leaves have been paid to farmers by December 25, 2022.
The chairman added that a total of 116,317 tons of tea leaves worth 9.49 trillion rials (about $226 million) were purchased from tea farmers in the last season.
According to him, 26,171 tons of dry tea were produced from the mentioned amount of tea leaves.
In Iran, some products such as rice, sugar beet, wheat, and tea are purchased from farmers by the Government Trade Corporation (GTC) of Iran under a guarantee and paid for in installments.
The price of first-grade tea leaves is 92,000 rials (about $2.19), and second-grade tea leaves are 71,000 rials (about $1.69) this season.
