BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 10. In total, 6,900 tons of raw cotton were purchased from farmers in Iran’s East Azerbaijan Province in the northwest of the country, during the current cotton harvesting season in Iran (September 20, 2022 through December 20, 2022), head of the province's branch of Central Organization for Rural Cooperatives of Iran, Rahim Mehrdadi told IRNA, Trend reports.

Mehrdadi said that 1,800 tons of raw cotton without seeds were produced from the purchased cotton, which is about 800 tons more than planned.

The official also added that the price of 1 kg of cotton purchased from farmers in the current season is set at 275,000 rials (about $6.54) under the agreement.

“Among the counties of Iran’s East Azerbaijan Province, the most amount of cotton for the current season was purchased in Khoda Afarin County,” he said.

Khoda Afarin Country is considered one of the main centers for cotton cultivation in Iran. During the current season, cotton was planted on an area of about 900 hectares of land in this country, and an average of 4.3 tons of cotton was harvested from each hectare.
