BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 8. Iran’s raw steel consumption increased by 14 percent, during the first 10 months of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2022 through January 20, 2023), compared to the same period last Iranian year, Trend reports via the report of the Iranian Steel Producers Association (ISPA).

More than 19.9 million tons of raw steel were consumed in the country in 10 months, while the figure stood at 17.4 million tons in the same period last Iranian year.

Within 10 months, billet and bloom consumption in Iran amounted to 11.2 million tons, which is an increase of 15 percent compared to 9.83 million tons in the same period last Iranian year.

Moreover, the country’s slab consumption for the reporting period was about 8.68 million tons. This is an increase of 15 percent compared to 7.57 million tons in the same period last Iranian year.

Iran also consumed approximately 16.3 million tons of steel products for 10 months, which is an increase of 14 percent compared to about 14.3 million tons in the same period last Iranian year.

At the same time, 26.8 million tons of sponge iron were consumed in Iran over 10 months, which is an increase of 8 percent compared to the same period last Iranian year.

So, 24.8 million tons of sponge iron were consumed in the country in the same period of the last Iranian year.

Reportedly, Iran's annual steel production capacity is around 40 million tons. Iran plans to increase the figure to 55 million tons by 2025.
