BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 13. Iran exported 6.57 million tons of raw steel, during the first 11 months of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2022 through February 19, 2023), Trend reports citing Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO).

Iran's raw steel exports for 11 months decreased by 1 percent compared to over 6.64 million tons in the same period last Iranian year.

Over 11 months, Iran also exported about 2.98 million tons of various steel products, which is a decrease of 2 percent compared to 3.03 million tons in the same period last Iranian year.

Furthermore, Iran exported 768,000 tons of sponge iron within the mentioned period, which is a 22 percent less than in the same period last Iranian year.

Meanwhile, Iran’s sponge iron exports amounted to 985,000 tons in the same period last Iranian year.

At the same time, 656,000 tons of iron ore concentrate were exported from the country in 11 months. This is an increase of 28 percent compared to 512,000 tons in the same period last Iranian year.

In addition, 4.99 million tons of iron ore pellets were exported from Iran for the reporting period, which is an increase of 357 percent compared to 1.09 million tons in the same period last Iranian year.

According to IMIDRO, the main reason for the decline in Iran's raw steel and steel products exports was the lack of gas and electricity.

Reportedly, Iran's annual steel production capacity is around 40 million tons. Iran plans to increase the figure to 55 million tons by 2025.
