BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 28. Iranian Ministry of Agriculture Jihad has increased the price of 1 kg of 1st grade tea leaves to be purchased from farmers for the current Iranian year (March 21, 2023 through March 19, 2024), by 52 percent compared to the last Iranian year (March 21, 2022 through March 20, 2023), Trend reports citing the ministry.
According to the ministry’s report, the price of 1 kg of 1st grade tea leaves was set up at about 140,000 rials (about $3.33) for the current Iranian year.
Meanwhile, the price of 1 kg of 2nd grade tea leaves was set up at 115,000 rials (about $2.74) for the current year, which is an increase of 62 percent compared to last Iranian year.
In Iran, tea leaves are purchased from farmers by Iranian Government Trading Corporation (GTC) and tea factories under a guarantee.
A number of products, including wheat, tea, rice, and other products are purchased from farmers by GTC under a guarantee in Iran.
In total, 116,317 tons of tea leaves worth 9.49 trillion rials (about $226 million) were purchased from tea farmers in Iran in the last harvesting season (April 21 through November 1, 2022). Of this, 26,171 tons of dry tea were produced within the country.
