BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 11. In general, 100,000 tons of cotton are estimated to be produced in Iran for the current Iranian year (March 21, 2023 through March 19, 2024), the executor of the cotton plan of Iranian Ministry of Agriculture Jihad, Ebrahim Hezarjaribi told IANA, Trend reports.

Hezarjaribi noted that a total of 335,000 tons of raw cotton are estimated to be collected in the country during the current year.

“Also, it is planned to purchase 2,000 tons of cotton seeds from local farmers, as well as to import 1,000 tons of cotton seeds in the current Iranian year,” he added.

The official also said that work is underway on fully satisfying the country's cotton needs at the expense of local production.

As reported, Iran's annual demand for cotton is about 150,000 tons.

Meanwhile, 250,000 tons of raw cotton were collected in Iran and 70,000 tons of cotton was produced in the preceding Iranian year (March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022).
