BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 1. The companies operating in Iran’s mining industry exported about 48.7 million tons of goods worth over $12.2 billion, over the last Iranian year (March 21, 2022 through March 20, 2023), Trend reports citing Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO).

According to the report, Iran’s mining exports for the last year decreased by 7.6 percent in value, while increasing by 3.4 percent in volume compared to the preceding Iranian year (March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022).

Last year, Iran mainly exported raw steel and steel products worth $5.76 billion, copper and related products worth $1.57 billion, aluminum worth $973 million, iron ore pellets worth $626 million, and zinc worth $597 million.

Iran also exported about $454 million worth of coal, $343 million worth of cement, $206 million worth of sponge iron, approximately $200 million worth of various mining stones, as well as $111 million worth of molybdenum, $90 million worth of iron concentrate, $81.6 million worth of ferrochrome and $80.2 million worth of lead within the mentioned period.

Furthermore, about 4.48 million tons of mining products worth approximately $5 billion were imported to Iran in the last Iranian year, which is an increase of 27.5 percent in value and 3.9 percent in volume compared to the preceding year.

Reportedly, Iran's annual steel production capacity is around 40 million tons. Iran plans to increase the figure to 55 million tons by 2025.

Overall, Iran exported more than 122 million tons of non-oil products worth approximately $53.2 billion over the last Iranian year, which increased by 10 percent in value, while it did not change in volume compared to the preceding year.
