BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 23. Iran’s raw steel consumption increased by 7.8 percent, during the first month of the current Iranian year (March 21 through April 20, 2023), compared to the same month in the last year, Trend reports via the report of the Iranian Steel Producers Association (ISPA).
More than 2.43 million tons of raw steel were consumed in the country for the 1st month, while the figure stood at 2.26 million tons in the preceding year.
Out of the mentioned 2.43 million tons, 1.37 million tons accounted for the country’s billet and bloom consumption, which is an increase of 26 percent compared to 1.08 million tons in the same month of the last Iranian year.
Meanwhile, the remaining 1.06 million tons accounted for the country’s slab consumption, which is a decrease of 9.16 percent compared to about 1.17 million tons in the same month of last year.
In addition, Iran consumed 1.69 million tons of steel products over the first month, which is an increase of 0.35 percent compared to 1.68 million tons in the same month in the last year.
At the same time, 3.36 million tons of sponge iron were consumed in Iran for the reporting period, which is an increase of 3.57 percent compared to the same month of the last Iranian year.
So, 3.24 million tons of sponge iron were consumed in the country in the same month last year.
Reportedly, Iran's annual steel production capacity is around 40 million tons. Iran plans to increase the figure to 55 million tons by 2025.
