West Azerbaijan Province accounts for over 20% of Iran’s honey production

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 5. About 24 percent of Iran’s annual honey production accounted for West Azerbaijan Province in the north-west of Iran, Director of the Agricultural Department of West Azerbaijan Province, Khosrov Shahbazi said, Trend reports.

Shahbazi noted that West Azerbaijan Province ranks first in Iran for honey production. On average, 30,000 tons of honey were produced in the province in the past several years.

“Meanwhile, in the current year (March 21, 2023 through March 19, 2024), more than 32,000 tons of honey are expected to be produced in the country,” he added.

The director also said that the main part of honey produced in the West Azerbaijan Province is consumed within the country, while a certain part is exported to Arab countries in the Persian Gulf.

In total, more than 136,000 tons of honey were produced in Iran for the last Iranian year (March 21, 2022 through March 20, 2023). Honey production has increased by about 18 percent compared to 115,000 tons in the preceding Iranian year (March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022).
