BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 10. The volume of dates to be harvested in Iran’s South Khorasan Province in the north-east of the country, is expected to increase by 43 percent for the current Iranian year (March 21, 2023 through March 19, 2024), compared to last year (March 21, 2022 through March 20, 2023), said Mehdi Jafari, Director of Agriculture Department of South Khorasan Province, Trend reports.
According to Jafari, more than 4,300 tons of dates are expected to be harvested in the province this year, while in the last year, 3,000 tons of dates were taken in the province.
The director added that date harvesting in the province will begin on August 15.
He also said that there are a total of 1,503 hectares of date orchards in the province. Of that, 1,115 hectares are productive.
Overall, there are approximately 260,000 hectares of date orchards in Iran. On average, circa 1.4 million tons of dates are harvested annually in the country.
