BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 5. Iran's raw steel exports increased by 24.8 percent, during the first five months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through August 22, 2023), compared to the same period last year, Trend reports.
According to the data of the Iranian Steel Producers Association (ISPA), Iran exported 3.09 million tons of raw steel in 5 months.
Meanwhile, the figure stood at approximately 2.48 million tons in the same period last Iranian year.
So, Iran exported 2.19 million tons of billet and bloom within 5 months. This is an increase of 20.4 percent compared to 1.82 million tons in the same period last year.
At the same time, Iran exported 905,000 tons of slabs for 5 months, which is 36.9 percent more than in the same period last Iranian year. So, the figure was over 661,000 tons in the same period last Iranian year.
Furthermore, Iran exported 1.34 million tons of steel products during the reporting period, representing a 15 percent increase compared to 1.17 million tons in the same period last year.
Moreover, 708,000 tons of sponge iron were exported from Iran in 5 months, which is an increase of 232 percent compared to 213,000 tons in the same period last Iranian year.
Reportedly, Iran's annual steel production capacity is around 40 million tons. Iran plans to increase the figure to 55 million tons by 2025.
